I think I see a couple of things here that could have lead someone with
apparently good mental health to lose said good mental health.  Sounds like
she had no parental support (actually had the opposite!) which probably
lead to many of the issues she is having now.

Girls who grow up in homes without a father or, in this case, a bad father
are predispositioned to all sorts of mental and emotional issues.
