So, it seems train tickets are now about the same price as flying. I would much rather spend less time traveling, and more time enjoying my destination. Also, I'm not retired, so adding 2-3 days each way just for travel time is out of the question.

I've had absolutely no issue with TSA over the years, whatsoever. Read the rules of what can go in your carry-on bags, and what needs to go under the plane, and you likely won't have any issues.
