Dang, IrfanView is some SRS BSNS, they've even put it on snapcraft.io/irfanview

Have you seen Nomacs(.org)? There's also XnViewMP and gthumb, that I saw...

For Notepad++ replacement, DM's recommendation of Geany is good. Also, if you
have plenty of resources, Sublime Edit can be pretty nice. I know there's a
paid version, but I just use the free one and haven't run into any roadblocks.
I use Geany on my shitty AMD A6 laptop with 4gb ram :).
