My situation with computers and related equipment was a little
different because I was an adult, 27 or 28, before they even
became an option. I owned a house before I got my first computer.

The cost of them was still a concern in my income bracket so I ended
up building my first few computers myself. The first 2 were Apple II+
systems before I got into IBM type computers, XT 8088's and such.

But back then a medium end IBM would cost you about the same as
a pretty nice used car. That's one thing that's changed (for the
better I suppose). It's pretty reasonable to buy a decent computer,
with a few days income now rather than needing a month's income.

At one time owning one put you in the 'elite' club..
Now every Tom, Dick and Harry owns one..  B)
