I'm not sure what is meant by "saved with the email itself" - only MIME-encoded attachments are actually part of the body text and looking at the attachment, it appears to be a FidoNet NetMail attachment (not MIME), and FTN NetMail attachments are always a discrete file and needs to be stored *somewhere*, so we store it in a user-specific "inbox" directory.
