 I once knew a guy who defused an argument about racism that had lowered
 itself to angry namecalling by responding with a 3 word reply.

 "I like ham"

 Just absurd enough to make people laugh.

 What I miss about the '90s is people could lash out online, then meet
 face-to-face at a gettogether and realize we're all people. The two
 people at the heart of that argument met at one of our gettogethers. We
 expected some friction, but one poster held out his hand, they
 grudginly shook hands, and continued their argument, albeit more
 boisterous, alcohol-fueled, and much more light-hearted. Right up until
 closing time. We got kicked out and disinvited from future events
 there.

 That face-to-face contact is something missing these days.
