Huh?  Dunno what Smolnet is and how you access Fidonet from the Pubnix.

Yeah, it's mostly all blare and vacuous content.   I've recently left FB -  
most people just shared other people's jokes and the FB system would litter  
your own feed with unsolicited crap.

There are technical echos that might represent the tech scoop you seek.

Fidonet is simply a collection of independent echos and a volunteer-based  
distribution system.

The echo catalog is vast. Some echos are empty. But the mechanism to  
distribute the messages is somewhat standardised. The conduit to do that is  
now largely via internet vs phoneline.
