I am not sure I would really classify the ones where you press a number to
choose a selection as AI.  OTOH, the ones where they want you to say
things, which the system rarely understands, I think those are meant to be
a crude form of AI but -- as you point out -- most don't really work too
well.

Those might be some of the most annoying examples of AI interaction that
most people deal with, which undoubtedly fuels skepticism.
