 I went through a dark period of my life during a drawn-out separation
 from my now ex-wife. We had several bitter support battles that
 required sharing financial information. I got in the habit of taking
 out my week's budget in cash from an ATM, then paying cash for lunches,
 gas, incidentals, groceries...

 As a nice side-effect, I had a tangible view of how much I'd spent that
 week when I opened my wallet. And, got cash discounts when buying gas.
 Overall, paying cash was a positive experience.
