Yes, and doing things like that is more important for some people than
others. Not everyone can handle money well.

My parents were always upgrading their situation as far as possible,
which means money was pretty much always tight. They drummed into our
heads early on to be careful with money, which has been a life saver
at times over the years.

I also lost a wife along the way and, for a while, with a single
income and a mortgage to pay, I was almost having to choose between
paying the bills or eating. I remember eating the cheapest foods I
could find the last 2 or 3 weeks before my quarterly mortgage payment
came due..

Later after I sort of dropped out of normal society it served me
well again as I never really had much spare money until I finally
got old enough to get my Pension.. I now have more spare cash than
ever before but I still don't spend much more than I always have.
Better to have some spare in the bank than to live well and then
go bankrupt at the first unexpected expensive problem.

Somewhere I recall reading that Frugal people are the last to
be affected by bad times, and they are the least affected By them.
