how do you even know you're dealing with someone legally and not someone with 
a keygen who's making a buck?

I remember the various names over the years who would bbs people would 
contact via calling up multiserv in kansas city.  There was never any William 
Hughes and now people have been contacting this guy for the past 5 years.
