Well ... when ZyXEL-modems entered the stage offering higher speeds than what USR could, The ZC1 (and at one time IC too) decreed 'against' and refused to recognize the higher speed of "33600" for Makenl set-up although the room was there. I told him to take a hike and entered it in the ZONE2-segment with the mention if he didn't adapt his configuaration the nodelist for Z1 would break. All the other ZCs complied immediately and after a test-run showing his list was broken, ZC1 did comply too and he declared that "I was impossible to co-operate with". When IP entered the stage that same ZC1/IC argued against it having in the nodelist because Fidonet needed to remain virgin PSTN-territory ... which was at a time when we were already testing and implementing the new-to-be flags. You see, keeping it PSTN was about exercising "Khontrol" while allowing IP was fostering growth, a cozy anarchy...eventually IP saved what still remains of Fidonet...without it it would have expired. All that was made possible by a number of people who were allowed to test things in defiance of what was stated in the standard documents and decreed by the powers-that-be as "the law". That was what "MOB" was about. When people come up with "it is not allowed," "it cannot be done," "it won't work," my attitude is one of "hold my beer." What I notice over all those years is that when P4 is presented as the insurmountable truth, it is always a political motive of someone who has a bone to pick. Otherwise, it isn't used. P4 today, dear Dan, is primarily a tool, an aid, to keep Fidonet going and to achieve progress where and if possible. Not to put it in a stranglehold. In the NODELIST-POLICE echo, your new idol decrees continuously. It doesn't seem to bother you. It is something similar to the use of names. When someone wants to speak to me, they will address me as "Ward." But when they have a bone to pick, it suddenly becomes "the ZC" or "the IC." That applies to you as well. The reason above I spoke about a ZC1/IC and didn't put a name on it is because the person has passed away and can no longer justify him-/herself. Indeed, there is hardly any knowledge about the misery in Z1 and Z2 needed to piece together a nodelist. All that is involved, the extra programming pffttt... because the existing tools are insufficient. I know, there are those who stand up claiming they are ZC in an "othernet" and have no problems, but that is about something like the "PatagonianrabbitbreedersNet" with 5 participants, not a single one of whom writes anything.
