No parameters/settings (equivalent to -def_squote off) Quoted text is not reformatted to Fido-style, unless the user logs with /squote=on 2. -def_quote on Quoted text is reformatted, unless the user logs with /squote=off 3. -smartquote (-def_quote is ignored) Quoted text is always reformatted, and the user cannot change that.
