You're doing something wrong.  To prove that, I just logged into SESTAR, 
and successfully pasted into a "test" message from all varieties of 
external editors available (two flavors of SlyEdit, and FSEditor).

I did that by right-clicking my mouse in the text entry area, after 
getting the content I wanted to paste into my clipboard.  One way to get 
the content into the clipboard is to simply drag/highlight the text 
somewhere on the screen (even outside the BBS) and BAM! it's in the 
clipboard.  Then, as described above, just right click in the message 
entry area, and BAM! it's pasted in there.  Could not be easier.

I can do the same thing on any BBS I've tried, including my own.
