PTT = Push To Talk  The button on the microphone that is held down to transmit,
released to listen 
some repeaters have a timer thatstops transmitting after say 3minutes and until
the longwinded ham (Me) stops talking and releases his PTT Button the repeater
waits until it receives a signal in its RX  (Receiver) before it starts
transmitter (TX) again.

The Official definition of LID means a poor operator, one who doesn't follow
the regular procedure on phone or CW.
LID is the word spoken or sent on the key when another ham gripes you so much
that you want to cuss him out.
Cuss Words weren't acceptable and could have the FCC mail you a Pink Ticket
(Official Notice of Violation of Part 97 Rules).
