I suspect that not working for a living detaches you from Reality.

Marx never worked a day in his life.
Extremely wealthy people (especially ones who inherited their wealth).
The elderly "protesters" we keep seeing at Leftie "protests".

None of these people work.  None of them try to better themselves.

It makes me wonder if this should be studied.  "Work and embetterment make one
mentally stable."
