You either had to be technically savvy enough - so you were at least
contributing to the discussions.
Or you were nice enough to have someone techically savvy enough - so you
probably weren't a jerk.

It was a nice filter.  Then AOL came along and made it easy for stupid and/or
jerks to get on line.
