Why a differnet desktop. Just a different terminal emulator - or are modern Term. Emu's stupidly tied inextricably to a fixed set of other software that makes up a "desktop" whatever that is. I fired up lxterminal even though I'm not running lxde - it worked just fine. I've tried several others, all in my home made "desktop environment", they all worked.
