No, I could only get a build to complete if I installed libwayland-dev (and the bookworm version, not the bullseye version).

I build sbbs the same way I've always built it for years - using a CI job that builds a docker image. Essentially I do:

`make -f install-sbbs.mk RELEASE=1 NO_GTK=1 NO_X=1 SBBSDIR=/opt/sbbs`

(I would have thought the wayland stuff would fall under the `NO_X` setting? - I just added the `NO_GTK` option).
