BBS: TELESC.NET.BR Assunto: Winpoint unzipt ineens niet meer De: Michiel van der Vlist Data: Thu, 23 Apr 2026 11:22:05 +0200 ----------------------------------------------------------- Hello Chris, On Thursday April 23 2026 06:21, you wrote to you: CN>>>> I think that the point of Winpoint is that it's a full point CN>>>> package that doesn't require installing a tosser or anything CN>>>> else. MvdV>>> Sure. But it is alway nice to have options... CJ> By now I know FMail is not an option. Pity. My personal opinion - note the word "personal" - is that Winpoint having its own message base is a negative. It is a barrier in going from point to full mode. If it were just using JAM, a widely spread "standard" one could have the benefit of using a variety of utilities written for JAM. CJ> I did not have FMail configured properly yet but run in a problem that CJ> has nothing to do with FMail Calling external programs from Winpoint, CJ> a 32 bit program, on a system with OneDrive is unreliable. Then stop using OneDrive. What is the benfit of using storage in the cloud for for a FidoNet message base anyway? And if one MUST use the cloud, stay away from Microsoft I'd say... Just keep the message base on a local HD. The required space is neglegible compared to what is available these days. CJ> I made a simple oneline .bat program: CJ> echo External Programm started > CJ> c:\Users\chris\OneDrive\Desktop\echo.txt CJ> I have it called every time a netmail to user TEST comes in. CJ> It does not work. CJ> Too bad. If I could use FMail I could answer PINGs. Too bad indeed. Another option would be to drop Winpoint and use Binkd, Famail and Golded instead... That way you would have a stepping stone to full node status as a bonus. CN>>>> Anyway, AFAIK that would not be possible because it uses its CN>>>> own messagebase format. CJ>> Grok says it is not possible. CJ>> Copilot says it is possible and made a .pdf describing what it CJ>> thinks the settings should be. Copilot says the messagebase is CJ>> JAM. So... there you go. You have to start thinking for yourself... MvdV>>> So hopefully he did not completely mess up his system. CJ>> My important data are in OneDrive and in IMAP CJ>> If I blow up my system I can renstall Windows and download my CJ>> data from there. Hmmm.. if you mess up the data base by mixing formats, a file on OneDrive would be as easely corrupted as a file on local drive...
